This article describes mounting pressure from safety advocate groups to have IKEA issue a full recall of their MALM dressers. It includes a statement from Pamela Gilbert, former executive director of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), who called a recall a “no-brainer” at this point after a third toddler fatality caused by IKEA MALM tip-overs. IKEA acknowledges that more than 27 million dressers pose tip-over risks; however, only 300,000 repair kits were issued—a staggeringly low 1% response rate.
